At present time, there are more than 87 commercial passenger ferries operating throughout the Baltic Sea. Ferries in the Baltic Sea come in many shapes and sizes, from 50-100 passenger boats, all the way to 3000+ passenger ferries -- essentially cruise ships -- with shopping centers inside. The majority of passenger ferries in the Baltic Sea are Roll-on-Roll-off (RoRo), meaning they can carry motorcycles, autos, and full-sized trucks as well. Because of the shape of the Baltic Sea, it is often more efficient to cross via ferry, than to drive the distance around.
